Question by debbyanyc: How is it possible to get cable channels on a tv without cable or a satellite dish?
TV- no cable is running from cable outlet on wall to TV/VCR/DVD.. NONE. TV receives “cable channels” (weather/espn/disney etc) via built in rabbit ears on TV. NO satellite dish on premises. How? TV is 7 years old. Is there such a thing as a built in satellite receiver?

Best answer:

Answer by Josh
I don’t believe it is possible to receive satellite without a dish to receive and focus the signal. It is possibe the rabbit ears a picking up a signal “leaking” from a nearby cable line (this would still be a stretch). Are there any other cable connected to the tv (such as rca, s-video, dvi etc.)?

Hows does a TV Tuner for PC “specifically work”?

Question by Patrick: Hows does a TV Tuner for PC “specifically work”?
What does it connect too?
Do I need a cable box? or cable internet? to receive tv channels on the pc.

If I purchase a TV Tuner and put it into my computer, what other components do I need or need to hook the tv tuner too in order to receive video channels.

Best answer:

Answer by Howy
There are a couple of different types of TV tuners that you can get, some plug onto the motherboard of the pc through the pci slots, some are external devices that plug in with usb, and some are ever devices that simple use the pc monitor to display a picture.

You can get cards that work with various services, satellite, normal terrestrial (yagi) type aerials, im not sure about cable but there is probably one out there somewhere.

The general idea is that they have the decoder contained within the device, so supply it with the appropriate signal (aerial dish cable etc) and it will decode the picture and display it on your pc. Some can also use your pc’s hard drive for recording and other features.

Does anyone actually watch live tv on a PC?

Watch On Pc Satellite Tv

Question by pb33141: Does anyone actually watch live tv on a PC?
I have been putting this together on my PC little by little, in hopes of eventuallly watching programs and movies on my PC without having to pay a-lot to cable companies and the like.
I have installed a 500 watt power source and a ( Saphire HD 3850 ) graphics card, I also bought a software on the internet called “Premium TV for PC” at premiumtvforpc.com.
Now, the problem their is that it’s kind of complicated to use “I think”
and I can’t get premium TV for PC to respond to my emails, so that I can ask for help, so, by the way, if you know how to use it please call me & help me a little.
I’m usually good at those things, but can’t get this one down yet.
So back to my original question, I want to talk to someone who actually gets over on the cable companies and watches tv or cable for (no or low cost) on a PC?????????????? My # 305-321-2690

Satellite TV Providers Worried About Consumers Getting Satellite TV Through Their PC’s

Satellite TV Providers Worried About Consumers Getting Satellite TV Through Their PC’s

(PRWEB) August 28, 2006

A new software tool just recently hit the internet called Satellite TV For PC. People everywhere have been complaining that the prices cable and satellite TV providers charge is unfair, but now they have more options. This one small piece of software allows anybody with an internet connection to view over three thousand satellite TV stations from around the world through the internet on their PC.

Satellite TV For PC has taken the way we use the internet to a new level. Ever since the internet became mainstream it has been changing the way we live. At first it was all about email but then came chatting and several other innovations quickly followed. Now in present times we can do everything from making phone calls to ordering pizza and renting a movie over the internet.

With the new innovation of sending a streaming satellite signal through an internet connection anywhere in the world directly to your PC is exciting. Consumers will soon not have to worry about how much their local cable or satellite provider charges for service. Instead they will literally have a whole world of choices on where to get their television stations from.

Having no physical connection to a satellite or cable line will also be a good benefit. These satellite TV stations are available where ever there is a computer with the software installed that has a working internet connection.

Experts agree that Satellite TV For PC is just the tip of the ice burg. Now that companies as well as consumers know that this technology is available, products like it will be in very high demand. It would not be a shock to see the big name satellite TV providers like Direct TV and Dish Network start offering similar services for you PC in the near future as well.

Terry Brazil, resident satellite specialist at guruofinfo.com has done research as well as written articles on this subject had this to say:

“A software program like what Satellite TV For PC offers is simply just the starting point. The internet has given us tons of great new innovations on the technical front. The ability to do something like this has been available for years but nobody has just never tried to do it. I am sure that many hardware manufacturers are already planning on releasing products to help make watching this new service on their TV’s easier for consumers.

Now that technology like this has been proven to work everybody will be wanting a piece of the pie. You can bet your bottom dollar that we will see similar companies and products hitting the market before the end of this year. I believe that the bigger companies like Direct TV and Dish Network will also have to release their versions of this kind of software so they can try to stay competitive in the satellite TV market.”
